In the end, this is without a doubt my number one favorite movie of all time and it will probably never be unseated.
Have you ever watched a movie that just made you feel good? Like physically changed the way you felt? That’s how this movie is for me. Everything about it is perfect: the way it was shot, the dialogue, the CASTING♥. Seriously, the casting could not have been more perfect. But mostly I think I just love the way the story of Peter Pan was presented. Everyone is familiar with the story. I grew up watching Disney’s version and that was my perception of Peter Pan for many years. And don’t get me wrong, i’m a fan of the Disney version…but this version is much more in-depth and shows the dark elements of the story. They definitely upped the romantic tension of Peter and Wendy in the movie, (which I will never complain about because i’m a sucker for a tragic, coming-of-age love story), but other than that everything is much closer to the book than any other version i’ve seen. Critics have even said the same thing. This movie is dark, violent, and not afraid to show death.
The film did such a wonderful job of catching the subtle truth of what it is to grow up and how everyone struggles with that at a certain time in their adolescence. They were able to slip some very nice moments in that really drove the story and the relationship between Wendy and Peter and how it eventually propels Wendy into choosing to grow up. It’s just a gorgeous movie on all accounts and anyone who hasn’t seen it is missing out.
